Knox County Schools announce coupon book campaign, rebranding

Be sure to look for "The Original Knox County Schools Coupon Book' on the cover.
The Knox County Schools annual coupon book campaign school fund-raising sale will be  Sept. 23 through Oct. 8, 2010.  New for 2010 is the improved name and design of the popular school fund-raising program.

KCS book has new name for 2010 - "The Original Knox County Schools Coupon Book"
“Only books with the cover entitled ‘The Original Knox County Schools Coupon Book’ will directly benefit the Knox County Schools,” said Scott Bacon, Supervisor of Business Partnerships for the Knox County Schools.  “There are other coupon books that may look similar, so it is important for consumers to know this significant distinction.” (Read More)

Deadline Sunday, September 5
Public input sought to name Education Resource Center

The Knox County Schools are seeking public input on naming the new Education Resource Center that is projected to open in mid-September in the Knoxville Center Mall. Established by and primarily funded through the Simon Youth Foundation, the Education Resource Center is a non-traditional school designed for students who, for a variety of reasons, may have become “off track” to graduate from a traditional high school.

While high schools have been named for the geographic region they serve, the Education Resource Center will serve students from across the district and non-regional name suggestions are appropriate.

Suggestions on a name, along with an explanation and rationale behind the name, may be sent to knoxsuperintendent@k12tn.net.  Deadline for submissions is Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010.

Knox County Schools Strategic Plan:
"Excellence for All Children"

The strategic plan is the culmination of a year-long effort to identify and assess the strengths and the needs of the Knox County Schools. The plan builds on the vision for the future, Building on Strength: Excellence for All Children, that I presented to the Board of Education and the community in December 2008.

Just as we did with the development of the vision, we have had broad stakeholder participation and comment as we have developed this strategic plan. We have collected insights at multiple community forums and meetings with school leaders. The Knox County Council PTA, the Knox County Education Association, the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and our school principals were also represented on the strategic plan advisory group.

This strategic plan provides a blueprint for our actions, and defines our success for the next five years. There are areas in this strategic plan that are very specific in nature, elements that are more general, and some components that will require additional research and analysis. We have clearly established goals and initiatives that will be regularly measured using a variety of methods and metrics.

This strategic plan provides for the productive development of our instructional practices, processes, and systems, as well as an educational culture that will enable us to realize higher levels of academic success for all students, and achieve our vision of Excellence for All Children.

Sincerely,

James P. McIntyre, Jr.
Superintendent
