* Community Forum Meeting March 21 Fiscal Year 2014 General Purpose Budget*FY 2014 Budget: Approved by Board of Education April 9,2013 Budget Forums: Documents/Video Knox County Schools part of Tennessee investment to develop school leaders NASHVILLE — May 6, 2013: The Tennessee Department of Education has pledged nearly $4 million in Race to the Top funds to pay for eight leadership development programs, which will impact future school leaders in more than 20 districts across the state. (Read More)  The TN LEAD grants were awarded to organizations in partnership with one or more school systems, to either develop or replicate programs aimed at increasing leader effectiveness and improving student outcomes. The programs will target current and pre-service educators, in order to deepen the pipeline of effective leaders in Tennessee schools. (Read More)Summer Transfer window opens May 28 for students The summer transfer window will be open May 28, 8:00 AM through July 12, 2013, 4:00 PM. Parents/legal guardians of kindergarten students, students new to Knox County, students who have had change in family circumstances such as custody or guardianship or students who moved their residence since February 18, 2013 may apply for a transfer during the summer window. Additionally, the summer transfer window will be open to anyone wishing to apply for a “Magnet” transfer to Magnet schools where space is available.(Details) Superintendent appoints new Security Chief
 Knox County Schools featured by the Annenberg Institute for School ReformFrom 2006 to 2008, the Annenberg Institute for School Reform (AISR) led a broad cross-sector review of the Knox County Schools’ central office functioning, culture, and relationship with the community. Jacob Mishook, senior research associate at AISR, followed up recently with Superintendent Jim McIntyre on the evolution of reforms arising from that process. (Read the interview on the AISR website) Three Knox County High Schools Listed in 2013 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools Rankings U.S. News & World Report recently announced its 2013 Best High School National Rankings after collecting data on more than 21,000 charter, magnet and public high schools across the nation. Schools were ranked within each state, as well as on a national stage, to show how public high schools measure in not only their own community, but also across the country. In the national rankings, 500 schools earned gold medals, 1,790 were awarded silver and 2,515 bronze. The following three Knox County High Schools achieved Silver Ranking recognition in the 2013 Best High School list: Tennessee Ranking National Ranking Hardin Valley Academy #10 Silver at #1,140 Farragut High School #13 Silver at #1,286 Bearden High School #14 Silver at #1,296  Leadership Academy announces cohort class for 2013 The Leadership Academy has announced its next cohort class for 2013-2014. A collaborative venture between the University of Tennessee and the Knox County Schools, the Leadership Academy prepares talented individuals to become outstanding new school principals through a full-time, intensive 15-month fellowship program. Elementary rezoning information  Knox County Schools Strategic Plan:
 The strategic plan is the culmination of a year-long effort to identify and assess the strengths and the needs of the Knox County Schools. The plan builds on the vision for the future, Building on Strength: Excellence for All Children, that I presented to the Board of Education and the community in December 2008.Just as we did with the development of the vision, we have had broad stakeholder participation and comment as we have developed this strategic plan. We have collected insights at multiple community forums and meetings with school leaders. The Knox County Council PTA, the Knox County Education Association, the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and our school principals were also represented on the strategic plan advisory group.
This strategic plan provides a blueprint for our actions, and defines our success for the next five years. There are areas in this strategic plan that are very specific in nature, elements that are more general, and some components that will require additional research and analysis. We have clearly established goals and initiatives that will be regularly measured using a variety of methods and metrics.
This strategic plan provides for the productive development of our instructional practices, processes, and systems, as well as an educational culture that will enable us to realize higher levels of academic success for all students, and achieve our vision of Excellence for All Children.

 Superintendent testifies before U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Dr. Jim McIntyre, Superintendent of the Knox County Schools, testified before the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee (Committee on Education and the Workforce) in the United States House of Representatives on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, addressing the Subcommittee regarding the Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM), and the Knox County Schools’ experience in implementing the new teacher evaluation system.
