U.S. Secretary of Education visits Knox County Schools
 
West High School Principal Katherine banner shares information during a high school redesign round-table discussion with (l-r) Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. Later in the day, the secretary also visited Ritta Elementary for a second round-table discussion with 15 selected KCS teachers.

U. S. Secretary of Education Erne Duncan greeted each Ritta staff member before the afternoon round-table at Ritta.
U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan visited two Knox County Schools Wednesday, April 3.

Secretary Duncan and Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam participated in Round-table Discussions on education reform at West High School in the morning and Duncan held another at Ritta Elementary School in the afternoon.

West Panel:
Students Lauren Winder and Justin Stevens, teachers Caleb Clark and Lindsey Stinnett along with Assistant Principal Jason Myers and Principal Katherine Banner joined Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre, Secretary Duncan and Gov. Haslam on the panel.

At Ritta , a select group of elementary, middle, and high school teachers joined the Secretary in a round-table discussion.

Panel Members:
Ritta Elementary teachers Brooke Hamby, Ashley Wilder, Kathleen Kain, Georgeanna Johnson, and Megan Brown

Middle school teachers were Tenisha Marchbanks (Bearden), George Frazier (Gresham), Merry Anderson (Karns), Lindsay McNeely (Powell) and Resa Byrd (Vine Middle)

High school teachers were Floweree Galetovic (Bearden), Rich McKinney (West), Wanda Lacy (Farragut), Angela webb (Gibbs) and Robby Howard (South-Doyle)
