Steps to LearningSeventh Grade Health

The overall goal of health is to introduce students to basic knowledge and skills needed to establish healthy living habits and personal healthcare, and to recognize the availability of community health providers. In the seventh grade health focuses on personal choices and how they impact a person's total health.

Students will:
  • analyze body systems (e.g., circulatory, digestive, reproductive, skeletal, muscular) and their functions.
  • explain the benefit of exercise to social, mental, and physical health.
  • analyze a food label and evaluate individual food choices.
  • compare states of human growth and development (e.g., adolescence to puberty).
  • understand the prevention, symptoms and treatment of contagious and non-contagious diseases.
  • name community health care facilities and the resources they provide that promote wellness.
  • analyze peer and media influences regarding the use of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs.
  • list situations that threaten personal safety and review the types of abuse.
  • list emergency response actions and demonstrate basic first aid.
