  • FLIGHT PLAN

     

    Girls interested in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science:  UT Engineering "Little Systers" will sponsor an event on Saturday, February 25th, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Min Kao Building.  No cost, lunch provided, and no experience needed.  See the signs in the Atrium to register, or see Mr. Ashe.

     

    Are you interested in competing in the school-wide Poetry Out Loud contest but do not have an English class this semester?  You will have a chance to compete for a spot next Wednesday, January 25th immediately after school in the HVA Library.  You will need to see Mrs. Sherman in the Library to sign-up before Wednesday and to receive instructions.

     

    The HVA French Club will meet on TODAY, January 23rd at 3:45 p.m. in F107.

     

    Attention students who took the PSAT in October. We have received paper copies of the score reports, and will have a meeting during Flight time on Wednesday, January 25 to distribute the scores and discuss how to access the online resources and features associated with the PSAT and your student's College Board account.  Please report to the auditorium for Advisory on Wednesday, January 25 at 1:30 p.m.  It is important the student attend the meeting to receive the paper copy of the results, as well as have an opportunity to hear about the features they can access through their College Board account, such as FREE SAT prep through the Kahn Academy, as well as college and career planning resources exclusive to the College Board.

     

    Gradient, HVA's Gay-Straight Alliance, will hold its regular meeting from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Thursday, January 26th in room F101.  We will be discussing this semester's Pride Project.  Bring a snack to share if you wish! 

     

    The HVA Literary Magazine is still accepting submissions for inclusion in this year's magazine.  Send your poetry, short stories, photography and art to literarymagazine.hva@gmail.com or give it to any staff member.  The deadline for submissions is Valentine's Day; so send in your work today!

     

    Girls Who Code will resume meeting beginning Monday, January 23rd, in D207.

     

    HVA CyberPatriots will resume meeting on January 26th.

     

    Please join the HVA Baseball Team for the Second Annual Lead-Off Dinner on Tuesday, January 24th at 5:30 p.m. in the HVA Atrium.  The event will feature a silent auction, a meet and greet with some amazing hometown players, great food, and inspirational life lessons told by the finest young men to participate in sports from Knoxville.  The feature guest is Jared Brentz.  After facing life in a wheeelchair from a birth defect, Jared decided at the age of 12 to have both feet amputated so that he could participate in sports.  He went on to become the World ParaLong Drive Champion.  Tickets are $15.  If you are interested, please see Joe Michalski or Lisa Myers for more information.

     

    The University of Tennessee's Marco Institute for Medieval Studies and Bearden High School are partnering for an upcoming Medieval Day to be held at Bearden High School. Medieval Day is January 28th from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. and will include medieval weapon and armor demos; hands-on activities with manuscript-making, mosaics, and catapults; lectures and interactive lessons from UT faculty; reading contests in Latin and other medieval languages; art contests; and the very medieval free meal of pizza. The event is open for Knox County high school students interested in the Middle Ages. For more information, check out @marcoinstitute on Twitter or ask Dr. Bevill.

     

    SGA cordially invites you to this year's Winter Formal. Winter Formal is Saturday, January 28th from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. Tickets are $10 and available at lunch.  All Guests must have completed a guest form prior to purchasing tickets. Tickets will be available at the door if you bring your student ID and they will be $20. Attire is semi-formal and light refreshments will be available. 

     

    HVA Latin Club will meet on Wednesdays after school in Room F102. 

     

    The HVA Dungeons & Dragons Club will have its next meeting on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.  Come to room F111 after school.  The meeting will go from 3:40-4:40 p.m.  You do not need to already be a member to join and play!

     

    Gettysburg College is excited to offer several opportunities for high school juniors and sophomores to attend academic camps over the summer months.
